“God, I love this part!”Aaron Stanforddelivers formerX-MenPyro’s line of dialogue with such relish in the official teaser forDeadpool & Wolverine. When the footage first dropped back on February 11, fans got their first look at one of the many variants who are going to show up in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s highly anticipated team-up this summer. And Stanford, who originally portrayed the younger Pyro inX2: X-Men UnitedandX-Men: The Last Stand,is thankful to finally be sporting the appropriate garb. Stanford said in an interview (perEntertainment Weekly):
“I was just very happy to even have a costume. In the original X-Men films, Pyro gets really shortchanged in terms of a costume. In X2, we start off with Pyro in Xavier’s School for Gifted Mutants. The SWAT team bursts in… in the middle of the night, and we have to flee. So, for half the movie,I’m in my jammies.”

Deadpool & Wolverine
A follow-up to the highly successful Deadpool and Deadpool 2 films starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. The third film will be the first in the franchise to be developed under the Marvel Studios banner following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
Stanford continued:
“I never got the cool leather, tactical suit that all the X-Men wear. And in X3, I was justdressed in an ensemble from Hot Topic, basically. So, to have him be in a proper superhero costume that was actually taken from the comics themselves was very cool.”
Will Iceman Show up & Chill Out with Pyro in Deadpool & Wolverine?
Pyro is just one of many Mutant variants expected to appear across the multiverse ofDeadpool & Wolverine. Hugh Jackman himself is playingan alternate version of the Wolverine, and the actor last appeared on the big screen as Wolvie in 2017’sLogan. And when the aforementioned official teaser dropped back in February, Pyro actor Aaron Stanford took to the internet to celebrate and confirm his return via social media:
Welly welly welly well. If it isn’t our old Droogie Pyro… #deadpool3 #pyrosback

During the same interview with Entertainment Weekly,Deadpool & Wolverine’sdirector Shawn Levy discussed all the still unknown characters and cameos crammed into the Merc with a Mouth’s first adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, without giving away any spoilers. Levy said:
“We didn’t want any of the cameos or characters to be the story of the movie. But they are peppered in throughout. There’s a lot of characters. The internet is a delight of rumors about the multitude of character cameos that are in this movie. Some rumors are true, some are way off base.Wade [Wilson] himself is a fan.”

Ryan Reynolds Reveals: ‘I Didn’t Know if I’d Ever Be Playing Deadpool Again’
Deadpool & Wolverine’s Ryan Reynolds dishes on playing the Merc with a Mouth again, while Emma Corrin reveals something juicy about the film’s baddie.
Levy continued:
“Without giving anything away about the various universesthe different characters live in…. becausehe’s in some ways a fawning motormouthed little fanboy himself,it allows the movie to call outand reference a ton of deep-cut Marvel references.”
Now that Stanford’s Pyro is ready to burn things down in the multiverse, the obvious question becomes: Will Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman be there to cool down his hot-headed friend? While promotingX-Men: The Last Standback in 2006, Stanford spoke about Pyro and Iceman’s unique and oftentimes chilly relationship (viaYouTube):

“Pyro and Iceman — you could see it inX-Men 2— that there’s a relationship there. They’re friends, but they…there’s obviously something that doesn’t quite jibe about their personalities. So, there’s always been a little bit of friction there —and I think a certain resentment that Pyro has for Bobby [Iceman].I think he’s jealous of the life that Bobby had that he never had —the family that he had.”
Stanford is making his first appearance on the big screen as Pyro sinceThe Last Stand. However, Ashmore did reprise the role of Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, inBryan Singer’sX-Men: Days of Future Past. So, will these former friends get to square off again inDeadpool 3? Fans will just have to wait and see. But, as the lyrics of Pat Benetar’s song go: “I’ve seen you burn ‘em before. Fire and ice… you come on like a flame, then you turn a cold shoulder.”
