Based on the series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, which were also adapted into a series of video games,The Witcherhas become one ofNetflix’s biggest original series. Since its inception, the show has amassed a large, dedicated fanbase. In recent years, however, the series garnered some negative audience reactions after it was announced that Henry Cavill would not return as the show’s titular character, Geralt of Rivia. Beginning with its fourth season, which is currently in production and set to premiere sometime in 2025, Geralt will instead beplayed by Liam Hemsworth. That being said, no matter who portrays the monster killing witcher, there’s no denyingGeralt is quite a distinguishable character within the world ofThe Witcherseries.
At first rebuked for merely being a witcher, he eventually garners a positive reputation after the bard, Jaskier (Joey Batey), urges people to “toss a coin to their witcher” in exchange for slaying a myriad of local monsters. Huge in stature with long white hair,Geralt of Rivia quickly became knownas the White Wolf. With a reputation that often precedes his arrival wherever he travels, the well-known witcher is one of a kind among the dying bread of mutated humans. Unlike other fellow witchers, Geralt’s appearance is rather unique, which begs the question as to why. What makes him so different from the others, and why is he the only one with such white hair?

Do Geralt’s Features in the Book Differ From Netflix’s Witcher Series?
The Witcher
Whencompared to Sapkowski’s books, as well as the video games, Geralt’s appearance in the Netflix series generally has the same features. He’s large in stature and possesses a commanding presence whenever he enters a room. With white hair and yellow eyes, the Geralt of the novels and the Geralt of the series are extremely similar. However, in the books, his appearance overall is much whiter and paler.
Liam Hemsworth Brutally Slammed by Witcher Fans After Sharing Gym Photo Ahead of Season 4 Filming
Liam Hemsworth thanks fans for support of his new movie Land of Bad, but Henry Cavill fans turned everything back to The Witcher.
After enduring the Trial of Grasses, the process in which children are mutated to become witchers and further experimentation, Geralt loses all his pigmentation, and his eyes turn yellow. While the same happens to him in the Netflix series, his skin doesn’t lose its color in the same way. Instead, his white hair sets him apart the most, especially when compared to his fellow witchers.

Do Other Witchers Have White Hair?
Generally speaking, other witchers don’t have white hair. This is true in the books, the game adaptations, and the Netflix series. However, that being said, Geralt’s de facto father, Vesemir, does have white hair, which is actually gray as a result of his age. InNetflix’s animated spin-offand prequel,The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, a young Vesemir is shown with brown hair even after becoming a witcher.
The Witcher Star Reveals Liam Hemsworth Casting Doubts, but Says ‘Attack-y’ Fans Need to Give Him a Chance
Liam Hemsworth has not begun his time as The Witcher yet, and one star is urging fans to bear that in mind after overcoming her own recast doubts.
Although they are mutated beings, witchers age just like regular humans, albeit extremely slowly. At nearly 300 years old, it makes sense Vesemir would start to show his age a bit via his gray hair. Geralt, on the other hand, has white hair because he is unlike his fellow witchers. From the moment he survived the mutations as a child, he’s possessed startlingly white hair.Unless their hair turns gray from age, other witchers don’t have white hair.

Why Is Geralt Unlike His Fellow Witchers?
With his white hair and piercing yellow eyes,Geralt immediately stands out as one of a kind among his fellow witchers. As a child at Kaer Morhen, he was an exceptionally resilient child, which allowed him to survive the Trial of Grasses particularly well. Because of this, he was chosen to endure further experimentation. After numerous trials and experiments, he endured extensive hormones, herbs, and viral infections, which ultimately stripped his hair of its pigmentation and made his eyes yellow. While other children were also chosen for further trials, Geralt was the only one to survive. His white hair represents a resilience and strength other witchers simply do not have despite their powerful mutations.
Geralt is arguably the strongest witcherthere is on the Continent. However, the reasons for his strength during the trials have yet to be fully explained. As the descendant of a sorceress, it’s possible his lineage has equipped him with a strength and inherited power other witchers lacked as regular humans.

While many children who ended up at Kaer Morhen were strays, orphans, or castaways, Geralt’s circumstances were different. His mother took him to Vesemir and left him behind, fully knowing what would become of him. While her motivations have yet to be explored in the series, it could have something to do with the role he plays inthe prophecy involving Ciri(Freya Allan). Geralt is different because he’s likely meant for something greater, and his white hair directly underscores his unique strength and resilience when compared to his fellow witchers. The first three seasons ofThe Witcherare currently streaming on Netflix.
