Tyrannical Predator Moveset
Description
Horizontal Bite
A horizontal bite where the boss puts its mouth down against the ground, preceded by a roar, where it tries to snap at the player. Can be dodged or blocked.
Charging Bite
A charging bite where the boss tries to back up, opens its mouth wide, and rushes forward toward the player. On a hit, the bite grabs the player and deals heavy damage. This move can be dodged or run from, but blocking it will just result in getting grabbed.
Turning Sweep
The Tyrannical Predator swings its tail in a wide arc, sweeping the area. It’s best to strafe to its right if it performs this move.
Quick Tail Whip
The boss quickly whips its tail, attacking to its side. It can be dodged or blocked.
The boss lunges forward after a brief windup. The windup makes it fairly predictable, allowing you to move away from the danger zone of the attack and get some hits in.

Claw Smash
The boss gets on its back legs, preparing to slam its claws towards the player. The attack is extremely telegraphed, giving you opportunities to dodge, block, or even get a relatively easy Perfect Guard.
The Tyrannical Predator first tries to hit forward with the bottom of its jaw, then attempts a body slam. Getting to its sides makes this attack fairly easy to dodge.

Jaw Combo 2
Same as above, but the creature adds a whip of its tail to the combo. Dodging or blocking the attacks in this combo is still fairly easy, as long as you don’t assume the combo is the shorter version.
Lunging Combo
The Tyrannical Predator lunges towards the player and then keeps biting for two additional attacks. It then finishes with its Claw Smash, which you can punish pretty easily if you have enough stamina left.
The Basics of the Tyrannical Predator
The Tyrannical Predator is the first real boss of Lies of P: Overture, found in the Savanna Experience Center of the Krat Zoo. It is a mutated crocodile, with a decent health pool and a very aggressive approach to combat. Defeating it is required to progress in the DLC and will net the player a Full Moonstone and a little less than 9,000 Ergo (a fairly mediocre reward, overall).
The creature is, by far, most dangerous from the front, where it can perform fast bites, body slams, and a dangerous grabbing charge attack. It is still dangerous while you’re at its sides or behind it, where it can whip its tail, slam, and try to quickly turn for a bite, but youtypicallywant to be to its side when trying to deal damage to it.

This boss seems to be divisive online, with most players at least agreeing it is pretty difficult (although even that isn’t a unanimous opinion), with many comparing the difficulty jump of this DLC to something likeShadow of the Erdtree. Regardless, as is true of all bosses, the Tyrannical Predator is obviously much easier if you can nail the windows in which you’re able to Dodge or even Perfect Guard its attacks.

Discussed in more detail later, the difficulty of this boss can also be significantly reduced through the use of certain items.
The Straightforward Approach
Immediately obvious when fighting the Tyrannical Predator is its aggression. As you try to attack it with basically any standard weapon, it is going to be heavily pressuring you with its various slams, claw, bite, and tail attacks. It will frequently perform attacks in combination; most of its smaller attacks can potentially be part of a multi-attack combo. The Dancing One’s Amulet, available from Alidoro by trading the Parade Leader’s Ergo, can help ease some of the timing of dodging these attacks, as you’ll be able to dodge even when out of stamina. For blocking, the Aegis Legion Arm is immensely useful, especially if upgraded to allow for melee attacks while blocking.
Spacing with this boss can be difficult, as it is large and fairly fast. You typically want to try getting to its sides, as its most dangerous moves occur at its front. At the same time, it’s important not to get stuck against walls or debris in the arena, as this can easily mess up your momentum and allow the creature to land hits you otherwise could have dodged. Arguably, the Tyrannical Predator’s most dangerous attack is its charging grab, where it generally tries to jump back and then charge at the player with its mouth open (vertically, as opposed to its still dangerous but non-grabbing bite where it turns its mouth horizontally). This attack almost always needs to be dodged (or quickly strafed away from) and has decent tracking; it deals heavy damage and can easily kill you if you’re not near full health.
The Tyrannical Predator is vulnerable to a variety of status effects, with Overheat seeming to be the status it was most vulnerable to in testing.Getting this boss to Overheat allows you to deal significant damage over timeandboosts any additional Fire damage you deal to it while the status is in effect.
The Black Market Trader and You
The Tyrannical Predator’s difficulty can begreatlyreduced through the use of thrown items, with Thermite and Shot Put being especially powerful in testing. There are a few ways to find a handful of these items through exploration throughout the game, but the easiest way to acquire them in bulk is through thebase game’sMalum District Black Market Trader. This merchant is inside the Red Lobster Inn, with the ladder up to him almost immediately visible upon entering the inn through the shortcut you can open adjacent to the Malum District Stargazer.
The Tyrannical Predator can easily be Overheated with Thermite, especially if you combine the use of Thermite with a melee weapon that also dealsFire damage. Depending on your P-Organ upgrades (with upgrades adding more Thrown Weapon uses strengthening this strategy) and how often you are also able to strike the creature with other sources of Fire damage, you can potentially Overheat the boss two or even three times without too much effort as long as you’re spacing out your use of Thermite (you can’t build Overheat on an enemy that iscurrentlyOverheated).
Meanwhile, Shot Put does a decent job of stunning this boss, often interrupting his high-pressure attack pattern, dealing significant Stagger, and doing damage all at once.Importantly, Shot Put tends to cause the creature to reel backeven when it hasn’t yet been fully Staggered (or “Groggied”), meaning one or two tosses will often create openings for you to build stamina or get some melee hits in without needing to Dodge or Block for a short time.
A reality uncovered in testing is that the Tyrannical Predator’s main advantages seem to be decent speed and significant reach, with his gigantic body able to lunge, snap, and charge at you in one way or another, regardless of position, while in melee combat with it. Thrown Item attacks dramatically reduce this advantage, as you can deal heavy damage while mostly just pulling to its sides. You’ll still need to Dodge or Block attacks, but the pressure will be much less extreme (just watch out for its charging grab attack).
