The director ofThe Outer Worlds 2,Brandon Adler, has explained that in this sequel, players willnot be allowed to redistribute their skill pointsduring the game.
No Skill Respecs in The Outer Worlds 2
In RPGs, choosing the right skills and allocating attribute points is often one of the most important decisions we make during a playthrough, as it ultimately defines our character and playstyle.
However, many games (increasingly so) tend to"trivialize"this by including systems that allow players torespec—or redistribute their skill points—if they’re not satisfied with how their build performs. Now,Obsidianhas confirmed thatThe Outer Worlds 2willnotallow players to remake their character.

Decisions That Matter
This may come as a surprise, since the original gamedidallow respecs. But there’s a simple reason for the change:Brandon Adler didn’t work on the first game, and he has a very different take on this feature.
“We’re not going to let you respec your character. A lot of people love that, but I personally want the player to understand that their decisions are permanent and that they truly matter, so they need to think much more carefully about their choices,” Adler explains.

“In many games, you’re able to respec your character endlessly—and if you do that, you’re not really role-playing a character. You’re just jumping from one thing to another:My character is a deadly sniper… oh wait, now I’m going to be a smooth talker… and now I’m something else again.”
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with people enjoying that kind of gameplay. But I want to make sure that inThe Outer Worlds 2, the role-playing is genuinely meaningful. I want role-playing to be present throughout the entire experience,” he concluded.
The Outer Worlds 2is scheduled to launch onOctober 28forPC, PS5, andXbox Series X/S. Remember, it will also be available onGame Passon day one.
