Actor Robert Downey Jr has been familiar with stardom since he was a child as he is the son of Robert Downey Sr, who was a filmmaker and an actor. He achieved significant success early in his career but then his personal controversies slowed down his career. In the mid-2000s, Downey Jr agreed to play Tony Stark / Iron Man in 2008’sIron Mannot knowing that the character would become one of the most iconic characters in the world.

His character has always been a crucial part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe until Tony Stark sacrificed himself in 2019’sAvengers: Endgame. 1)The Avengers(2012)
Before filming the scene in 2012’sThe Avengerswhere Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Steve Rodgers (Chris Evans), and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) discuss what Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) may be hiding about the Tesseract and Loki, Downey Jr got hungry so he snuck in a bag of blueberries and pulled them out while filming the scene. That was never in the script and the actor even offered it to Ruffalo and Evans, creating a hilarious off-script moment.
2)Captain America: Civil War(2016)
InCaptain America: Civil War(2016), there is a scene where Tony Stark visits Peter Parker’s Queens apartment to talk about helping him out with his Captain America/Sokovia Accords issue. Before sitting next to Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr tells him, “I’m gonna sit here, so you move the leg,” an improvised line as Holland was taking up a lot of space on the bed not allowing him to sit.
3)Avengers: Age of Ultron(2015)
Robert Downey Jr made some major changes in the scene where Tony Stark breaks into a Sokovian lab facility and disarms the people working there inAvengers: Age of Ultron(2015). When he climbs out of his Iron Man suit to look for a secret passageway, the actor says, “Please be a secret door, please be a secret door.” When he does find the secret way, he exclaims, “Yay!” These lines were not in the script.
4)The Avengers(2012)
InThe Avengers(2012), Tony Stark announces on the control deck of S.H.I.E.L.D’s flying base, “That man is playing Galaga. Thought we wouldn’t notice, but we did.” Shortly after this, the camera turns to this operator who sneakily changes his workstation back to Galaga and starts playing again. This line was completely improvised by Robert Downey Jr, making it one of the most memorable and hilarious lines in the MCU.

5)Spider-Man: Homecoming(2017)
Spider-Man: Homecoming(2017) had another memorable scene where Tony Stark and Peter Parker are sitting in the back of Stark’s car, and he reaches over, making Parker think it’s for a hug. But then Robert Downey Jr. went off-script and said, “Not a hug. Just getting the door.” This clip also went viral on social media as fans found Downey Jr’s improvised line very funny.
6)The Avengers(2012)
One of the most iconic scenes in MCU is undoubtedly the post-credit scene in 2012’sThe Avengerswhere all the Avengers are eating shawarma right after the battle of New York. This was a result of Robert Downey Jr’s improvised line in the film, “Have you ever tried shawarma? There’s a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don’t know what it is, but I want to try it.” This improvised line gave fans one of the most hilarious post-credit scenes in the franchise.
7)Iron Man(2008)
This is undoubtedly the best-improvised line of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it shaped the entire franchise. At the end of 2008’s Iron Man, Downey Jr said something that was not in the script, “I am Iron Man.” His journey came to an end with the same lines as before snapping in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, he says, “And I… am… Iron Man.” Robert Downey Jr’s humor and acting ability are one of the main reasons why Tony Stark / Iron Man became a fan favorite.
