The conclusion to Netflix’s mega-popular sci-fi horror seriesStranger Thingsis fast approaching with the show’s upcoming fifth and final season. However, the Duffer brothers' highly successful original series won’t be the last time viewers see the world ofStranger Things, as at least one spinoff show is already in the works. With plenty of fans of the series eager to find out more about the upcoming spinoff,Stranger ThingsstarFinn Wolfhardrecently revealed that he’d shocked the series creators by pitching an idea for a spinoff that was eerily similar to the Duffer brothers' actual plans for the world ofStranger Things.

Wolfhard’s recollection came during an interview onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Wolfhard appeared as a guest to discuss the fourth season ofStranger Thingsand his upcoming film,Hell of a Summer, which Wolfhard co-wrote, directed, and stars in. While chatting about the final season ofStranger Things, the actor recalled a time when he’d causally pitched a spinoff idea that was bizarrely close to the Duffer brothers' actual plans for the world ofStranger Things.

Wolfhard said, “We were on set filming Stranger Things 4 and… I was like if you guys are actually gonna do a spinoff it should be this, and I said it and the Duffers looked at each other and they looked at me and were like, ‘Can we talk to you for a second?’ And then they pulled me off and they were like, ‘That is the idea. Who told you?’ I was like, ‘No one.’ And they were like, ‘What do you mean, you just came up with it?’ And I was like, ‘Well no, I just thought that would be a cool way to expand [the franchise].’ They were like, ‘Well, don’t tell anyone.'”

The Duffer Brothers Have Already Confirmed That There Will Be a Stranger Things Spinoff

Last year the Duffer brothers confirmed that they have beenworking on a spinoffof the popular sci-fi horror series that will be very different from what viewers have previously seen withStranger Things. While some speculated that the spinoff could potentially be a prequel or sequel that follows well-known characters or even involve the Hawkins Lab, the Duffer brothers have stated that the spinoff isn’t going to focus on things that have already been examined in the series and will instead be exploring something new. Still, the implication is that anyStranger Thingsspinoff will still occur in or involve the world fans have come to know and love.

With the information given by the Duffer brothers, it appears unlikely that many of the original actors would return to the world ofStranger Thingsafter season 5 ends. Similarly, most of the main cast has already begun to pursue new opportunities, like Wolfhard’s upcoming directorial film and Millie Bobby Brown’s success with Netflix’sEnola Holmesseries. But, regardless of what the spinoff will bring, it’s clear that the Duffer brothers’ plans for the world ofStranger Thingsare far from finished.
