While the Paintress is your main objective inClair Obscur: Expedition 33, there’s only one that has stood in your way all the way through your adventure4s. Near the end of Act II, you will come across a familiar face: Renoir. He has haunted Expedition 33 ever since the start of the game. He greeted everyone on the beach to a slaughter, and since then he has been nothing but a thorn in your side. With that said, his backstory is tied heavily to Verso and even Maelle, as you finally get to know a little bit more about the older man, all while having to cut him down for the final time.

Phase 1 Moveset
Description
Renoir summons a pool of Chroma.
This is a singular jump attack that is by far the easiest attack of the fight.
Renoir sends waves of Chroma.
Renoir will send out five wave blasts. The first four will be fast with the last one slow.
Renoir attempts to vanish [Character].
Similar to the first encounter, he will try a normal attack followed up with a Gradient attack that will try to remove a character from the party. This must be Gradient parried because there’s a chance it will succeed.
Phase 2 Moveset
The Dark Creature launches itself at the Expedition.
A simple two-hit combo that starts off with a slow normal attack followed up by a slow jump attack.
The Dark Creature performs a Tail Attack.
A Gradient attack that’s deceptively fast. As soon as the lion jumps in the air, you should be able to parry.
The Dark Creature claws the Expedition.
This is a three-hit attack that has a simple normal pattern speed all the way through.
Renoir performs a melee combo.
A six-hit combo that has a pattern offast > fast > normal > slow > normal > slow. It’s one of the harder attacks to avoid, but definitely avoid the final slow hit otherwise it will break you.
Renoir attacks from a distance.
This is a four-hit combo from Renoir that is deceptive because of how slow it is. Each attack is heavily delayed so best wait for the audio cue before dodging or parrying.
The second Renoir fight not only has some of the best music to kick on as soon as you enter it, but it features quite a few moves. This is only because, unlike most fights, there are two phases, and once you initiate the second phase, he will regain his entire health pool.

By far the most dangerous attack in this fight, similar to your first encounter with him, his Gradient attack. While the second phase’s lion has a very easy one to parry, this can catch you off guard because the first attack is a normal blow that you wouldn’t expect a Gradient attack to hit immediately after. If he succeeds, he will send a character out of the battlefield, essentially killing them without any means of reviving them or replacing them.
Then comes Enrage. At the beginning of the second phase, Renoir will become enraged, meaning he will gain two attacks per turn. This will allow you to get used to some of the attacks at a much quicker rate, but this also means he has more chances to perform the vanishing attack. Be sure to buff your party with defensive and offensive abilities to help with this.

Outside of this, most of the lion’s attacks are fairly straightforward, whereas Renoir himself has the more irregular attacks that can put you off guard.
