In a recent development,Kinetic Gameshas decided to postpone the release of the highly anticipated cooperative psychological horror game, Phasmophobia, for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Initially slated for release in October, the game’s launch has been pushed to an unannounced date due to unforeseen challenges.
Challenges in Adapting to New Working Conditions
The primary factor contributing to the delay is Kinetic Games' struggle to adapt to their new remote working conditions following a fire incident and the establishment of a new office. These unforeseen challenges have taken a toll on the game’s development timeline, extending it beyond the team’s initial estimates.
Optimizing Performance for PlayStation VR2
Another significant aspect influencing the delay is the studio’s dedication to optimizing Phasmophobia’s performance for the upcoming PlayStation VR2. The developers are determined to ensure a seamless and enhanced gaming experience for console players. In pursuit of this goal, they have taken the decision to completely rework the layout of Maple Lodge Campsite, a time-consuming process for their art team but essential for providing top-tier gameplay.
Shifting Halloween Event Plans
Originally, the team had aimed to synchronize the console release with a special launch coinciding with the Halloween event, a move that would have delighted fans. However, the unexpected complexity of their challenges made it impossible to meet this deadline. The team understands the disappointment this may cause but is actively working to minimize the impact of the delay.
Appreciating Fan Support
Kinetic Games wants to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the Phasmophobia community for their unwavering support and excitement regarding the game’s console release. While the delay may be disappointing, it is a testament to the studio’s commitment to delivering a gaming experience of the highest quality.
The Future of Phasmophobia on Consoles
Despite this setback, there is a silver lining. When Phasmophobia finally makes its way to PS5, PS VR2, and Xbox Series, players can rest assured that it will be well worth the wait. The dedication to optimizing the game for the new console hardware and ensuring a seamless experience is a promising sign of the incredible experience that awaits players.
Official Statement
Dear Phasmophobia Community,
We’d like to express our deepest gratitude for your support and excitement for our console release.
As we still attempt to adapt to our new remote working life after the fire incident and to establish a new office, we’ve encountered unforeseen challenges in adapting the game for consoles. These combined factors have affected our development timeline more than we initially anticipated.

Additionally, in preparation for the PlayStation VR2 launch, we have been diligently reviewing the game’s performance and optimizing it across all maps to ensure a seamless experience for all of our console players. In this regard, we had to rework Maple Lodge Campsite with a completely new layout (more information below). This decision, though time-consuming for our art team, is essential to provide the best possible gameplay experience.
While we had hoped to present you with a special launch alongside the Halloween event, the complexity of our current challenges means we need more time. We will keep you updated on our progress and provide a revised release date as soon as we have more information to share. We are working diligently to minimize the impact of this delay, and we want to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support.
We promise, when Phasmophobia arrives on consoles, it will be worth the wait.
