Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build (High Rank)- In this Monster Hunter Wilds Guide, we will be sharing with you a late game build for theHammeryou can use once you have reached the end of the story and go into the High Rank Environments.
Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build (High Rank)
This Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build will aim to maximize what the Hammer is already strong at, stunning monsters, making it easier to stun with your strikes. It will also reinforce your stamina in different ways so that you’ll have to worry less about stamina management and can focus more on landing the heavy attacks on the Monster’s head.
Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build - Weapons
Balahara Hammer II
For this Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build, we will be using theBalahara Hammer IIas our main weapon. The Balahara Hammer II is a rarity 4 hammer with a 10% affinity chance and water element attacks.
The weapon skill for the Balahara Hammer II isSluggerLevel 2. This skill increases the stun power of your attacks by a set amount and at level 2, it will increase your stun power by +30%, making it very easy to stun the monster and open huge windows for you to get your hits in.

In order to fully take advantage of this skill, you will have to be mindful to position yourself near the head of the monster so that you will be hitting the head more often than other parts.
Bone Bludgeon III
As an alternative, you’re able to follow the other unga bunga strategy and use theBone Bludgeon IIIhammer. The Bone Bludgeon will give you theFocusLv2 andAttack BoostLv1 skills. The Focus Lv2 will decrease your charging time by 10% and the Attack Boost Lv1 will give you +5 boost to your attack value.
Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build - Armor
For the armor set for this Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build, we will be using a combination of theGypceros Set, theBalahara Setand theAjarakan Set. Specifically, theGypceros Helm Alpha,Gypceros Greaves Alpha,Balahara Mail Alpha,Ajarakan Vambraces Betaand theAjarakan Coil Beta. The main reason for this combination is to get the skillPartbreakerfrom the Ajarakan set which will help increase your damage as you hit the head and claws of the monsters, while the skills from the Balahara and the Gypceros pieces will help the stamina management of your charges and dodges fromStamina SurgeandMarathon Runner.
The two pieces of the Ajarakan Armor set will give usPartbreaker Lv3, which will increase the damage we deal to break the monster’s parts as well as increase the damage dealt when we destroy the wounds using the focus strike by up to 30%.

Using the hammer, you’ll be breaking the monsters’ horns and claws most of the time and this skill will help break those parts faster when using the hammer.
The Balahara Mail Alpha and the Gypceros Helm Alpha will give us Stamina Surge Lv2, which will increase the stamina regeneration rate by 40% making stamina management easier.
TheMarathon Runnerskill from the Gypceros Greaves will reduce the stamina drain while you are charging your hammer strike, making it possible to use more consecutive charged strikes before you need to stop for a moment and regain your stamina.
The extra stamina recovery will also help you with repositioning using your charged steps to stay in range of the monster and land your attacks since the hammer has a shorter effective range than one would expect if you are not already familiar with using the weapon.
TheResentmentLv 1 skill will also help increase your damage output when you have red recoverable health whenever you get hit during the hunt.
The rest of the skills obtained from using this armor set are not a crucial part of the build are some nice added bonuses. We getFire ResistanceLv1 andBlast ResistanceLv1, offering some protection against elemental damage, andBombardierLv1 will make your barrel bombs and mega barrel bombs do more damage.GeologistLv1 will grant one extra item when you are gathering from bonepiles, andBlindsiderLv1 will make your Flash pods sling attack and Flash bugs more effective, blinding the monster a little longer.
For the Talisman for this Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build, we can use theMarathon Charmto get theMarathon Runnerskill to the max level easily or we can use the surge charm for an additionalStamina SurgeLv1 to increase the stamina regeneration rate even more.
Decorations
Attack Decoration
For decorations for this Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build, we can put 1 onto our weapon theBalahara Hammer II, since it has a single level one decoration slot. Ideally you’re able to put in theKO Jewel Ito max out theSluggerskill to Lv3. This will increase the stun power of your attacks by a total of +40%.
If you do not have a KO Jewel at this point, aFocus Jewel Iwill help reduce the charging time by 5%.
Or simply put in anAttack Jewel Ithat will boost your attack value by +5.
Armor Decoration
The combination of armor pieces in this build will give us a total of 2 level 2 decoration slots and 3 level 1 decoration slots.
These slots are flexible but ideally, you would want to have anRefresh Jewel 2that would increase yourStamina Surgeby one level and max it out. In addition, having aSprinter Jewel 1would also max out yourMarathon RunnerSkill to the max level.
You can fill out the rest of the decoration slots with Physique jewels that would give theConstitutionskill which will reduce the stamina cost of dodges and charged steps or you can simply put in the defensive decorations to have more elemental resistance against a particular monster you are hunting. For example, you can put in 1DragonRes Jewel 2and the2 Dragon Res Jewel 1if you are trying to huntArkveld.
For the Mantle in this build, theRocksteady Mantlewill help keep your charges from being interrupted by things such as tremors, wind pressure or roars and is an amazing mantle to use with the hammer. But if you don’t mind these and can work your way around the interrupting attacks, theMending Mantleis a great option since it will heal you back up when you don’t take for a short while.
This hammer build doesnt have skills that will help you in your recovery when you get hit, so its important to be mindful of the monsters’ attacks and evade when necessary. Otherwise, you will spend more time healing back up and drinking your potions rather than attacking the monster.
Although this weakness can be overcome using the decorations, what kind of decorations you have will depend on how lucky you get with the drops.
Additionally, the added mobility of the hammer with the Charged Step is amazing and this build lets you utilize it to the full potential with its Armor skills. But in doing so, this build has no skills that will utilize the other addition of the hammer, the Offset Strike. So even though the hammer is able to do offset strikes with its upward swings, this build doesnt do much to improve the damage of those strikes or buff you after the fact likeDoshaguma’s Might.
Progression Route
For the progression as you play through the late game, at a certain point after hunting a tempered monster, you will unlock the ability to forgeArtian Weapons. The Artian Weapon I’s are rarity 6 weapons that can be reinforced and you can use them reliably to farm for parts for your strongest weapon and armor parts.
to forge the Artian Hammer, you would need 2 pieces ofCracked Discsand a piece ofCrashed tube. You can get these Artian Materials by hunting tempered variants of the monsters.
Keep in mind though that although all the Artian Weapon I will come with three level 2 decoration slots, the element, attack power and affinity of the Aritain weapons are not fixed and will depend on the materials you used during the crafting. These three decoration slots will allow hunters to use the skills they like the most in a lot of combinations.
For the armor set, you may keep using this armor combination until you have farmed all the parts you need for the strongest armor set. To do this you would need to upgrade your armor parts with armor spheres to bring the defense value up as you progress.
A good option for the Hammer user is theGuardian Doshaguma Setwhich will offer a balance of offensive and defensive options.
Final thoughts
So in summary, this build is focused on bringing out the maximum stunning potential of the hammer and will amplify this capability to the highest possible level. But in doing so, you will trade off some defenses and as such you will need to focus on evading attacks to a certain extent before you look for an opening to land those big slams.
The Charged Step is an amazing addition to the Hammer’s moveset and it can help with both repositioning and keeping your charge up while you close in for the big bonks. The Hammer is in its most mobile state in Monster Hunter Wilds and fully utilizing this increased mobility makes the combat flow of using the hammer feels a lot faster compared to the previous Monster Hunter titles. As such you will need to use these abilities to keep yourself mobile and be careful not to get caught mid spinning in your spinning bludgeon attacks or Mighty Charge swings.
Even though this build may not have anything to improve the Offset strikes of the hammer, these moves are still amazing as they provide some degree of defense to a weapon with few defensive options.
Timing of when to use the big charged attacks is still crucial when using the hammer and recognizing the attack patterns and windows will help you go a long way when using the Hammer with this build.
Lastly for a secondary weapon, theGreat SwordandLong Swordare great choices as a secondary weapon for a hammer user because after you’ve stunned or toppled a monster, you can switch to your servering weapon and cut off those tails before switching back and delivering the headaches to the monster.
