Before the Memorial Day weekend, a cryptic video teaser revealed a special surprise would be unviled forTransformers: The Last Knighttoday, with the franchise’s Twitter hinting that “something wicked this way comes”. Some fans thought this might be an announcement thatShia LaBeoufis reprising his role asSam Witwickyfrom the original trilogy, since it was recently announced thatJosh Duhamelis coming back as Lennox. As it turns out, that wasn’t the case, with the franchise instead revealing the return of Megatron, who gets a new look.

Both the Official TransformersTwitterand directorMichael Bay’s Instagram revealed Megatron’s upgrade, while confirming that production is fully under way this week. Last week, the director shared the first set photos fromCuba, although it seems that principal photography won’t truly happen until later this week. Unfortunately, the filmmaker wouldn’t tease any details about how the villainous Megatron will be involved in the story, but he did add the following statement below.

“It’s starting. This week production. Megatron is back. #transformers #decepticons#”

The Last Knighthas Optimus Prime searching through the cosmos for the Quintessons, the beings believed to be responsible for the creation of theTransformersrace. Meanwhile back at home,Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager will be facing a new alien threat that bringsLennox(and possiblyTyrese Gibson’s Epps) back into duty.Isabela Monerhas signed on as the female lead, though no character details have been revealed.

The movie also hasJerrod Carmichaelfrom NBC’sThe Carmichael Showas the comedic relief this time out. Shooting will take place inDetroit, with various on-location shoots planned to take place throughout the world.Michael Bayis directing from a script byIron ManwritersArt Marcum&Matt Holloway. They are joined byBlack Hawk DownwriterKen Nolanon the screenplay. The team were part of Paramount’s writer’s room that generated several ideas forTransformerssequels and spinoffs.

Paramount has set a June 16, 2025 release date forThe Last Knight, which is currently the only movie set for release on that date. The sequel will be sandwiched between a number of highly-anticipated projects, such asKingsman: The Golden CircleandCars 3on July 30, 2025, andDespicable Me 3,The HouseandUnchartedon June 03, 2025.
