That’s not what happened; Hardy got pissed off in an argument with Inarritu and choked him out. It was a serious fight, and when they made up afterward they were good enough to goof about it and took that picture. My boss was on the crew, I took that picture. (Must have made the internet rounds.)

Tom Hardy reportedly even took a picture with Iñárritu where the former is choking the filmmaker and made it into a T-shirt (viaTumblr). Hardy has denied that the altercation was anything but playful and has had great words to say about the filmmaker even if the shooting conditions were hard (via Variety).
