Around halfway into Act 1 ofPath of Exile 2, you will be given the ability to pick up a side quest from our good friend Renly back in the Clearfell Encampment. This side quest is calledFinding the Forge, sending you across the land to the decimatedOgham Villageto retrieve Renly’s tools.
Renly is one of the most important figures in the Clearfell Encampment, and bringing back his tools will unlock the Salvage Bench, something that’s immensely important for salvaging gear and improving some of the better equipment you obtain. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as going to the village and retrieving them, as dangers lurk around every corner, and the map is not a set in stone feature where you can point to the exact location of an item or boss.
Where to Find Renly’s Tools
Because of how Path of Exile 2 works, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where Renly’s Smithing Tools are located. How it works, is that each area will be randomly constructed based on the instance. So your exploratory experience will be drastically different from anyone else’s. Sometimes you will go through a winding village, sometimes you will get a straight line from the start to the boss.
While everything is randomly generated, that doesn’t mean where the bosses and key items are located are also completely different. While they will be drastically different from where they are on the map, their location almost always follows the same type of format.
For Renly’s Tools, you will have to find a very specific hut/building within the Ogham Village. This will be indicated with a checkpoint alter, which can be easy to identify, but finding it on the huge map can be challenging.
Once you find this checkpoint, head on in to findDryclaws, a mini-boss that is guarding Renly’sSmithing Tools. Take care of him and his goons and collect the Smithing Tools. Head back to the Clearfell Encampment with your portal and hand them over to collect your reward.
What Do Renly’s Tools Do?
Upon returning Renly’s tools to him, this will unlock the Salvage Bench to the left of him. This is a very important feature for getting rid of gear with rune slots. When you salvage gear with runes in it, you will be granted Artificer’s Shards. This is a currency that will turn into an Artificer’s Orb once 10 are accumulated, which can modify specific pieces of gear, adding asocketto the gear.
