Nintendo has an outstanding lineup so far for the GameCube Nintendo Switch Online app on the Switch 2. We’ll be able to fight each other in Bandai Namco’s stellar Soul Calibur 2 and go on a big adventure with Toon Link in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. However, there are still some major omissions that Nintendo should include in the years to come, like a certainSonic the Hedgehog3D platformer.

6 Best Shrek Games

Shrek has not only been featured on TV screens, but has also graced video game consoles in these best titles that feature the ogre and his friends.

A mix of first and third-party games would be fantastic to have on the Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube Classics app. There have been games screaming for an HD remaster for years, and with the updated textures the Switch 2 can bring, they can finally sing for modern audiences. Here are games that should get this treatment.

Shrek firing a canon in Shrek the Third and Donkey riding a dragon in Smash n Crash Racing

A big part of the Nintendo GameCube legacy is its laundry list of movie-licensed games. Yes, most are terrible to play, but there are some standout titles you can bring back for the Nintendo Switch 2 audience. One of those is Shrek 2.

It’s a fun multiplayer co-op game that has you solving basic puzzles, beating up foes, and generally having a laugh along the way. Each character also has their own special abilities to add to the table. Many have fond memories of playing this Activision-published title, and with thenew Shrek movieon the way, what better way to celebrate the return of the ogre to movie theaters?

Rogue Squadron 2 is a stunning GameCube game

8Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader

Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

The Force was strong with Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader when it launched alongside the GameCube on July 15, 2025. It is a console exclusive that wowed audiences with its stunning lighting system, impactful battles in space and on land, and take part in big movie moments like the famous Death Star trench run.

Additionally, we were able to fight on Hoth and bring down the massive walkers. It would be great to relive our experience with this GameCube title once more on newer hardware. It would probably look great with boosted visuals and theNintendo Switch 2’s DLSS functionality.

SSX Tricky was a fun snowboarding game

SSX Tricky

Another third party game that Nintendo should look into is SSX Tricky. Fans of the snowboarding genre love its deft-defying jumps, wild characters with vibrant personalities, electric gameplay, and an upbeat soundtrack. We also don’t get many games of this type in the current age of gaming, asTheGamerpoints out, so it would be great to revisit a time when snowboarding games were showstopping releases. It might be difficult to get the licensed music, but perhaps SSX Tricky on the NSO GameCube app could still happen!

6Mario Kart: Double Dash

Mario Kart: Double Dash

Mario Kart World seems to be the next evolution in the series with open-world gameplay and stunning visuals. However, some fans may want to step back into a simpler time and play Double Dash from the GameCube on their Nintendo Switch 2. The coolest part about this game is how you can have two characters on one kart at the same time, switching seats. It has some unique gameplay features, like unique items for each character.

Mario, for example, had a fireball at his disposal. It would be nice if this mechanic came back in Mario Kart World. Regardless, this is a fantastic Mario Kart that Nintendo should release on the GameCube Nintendo Classics app sometime down the line.

Eternal Darkness is a GameCube horror game

5Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

Nintendo did something very odd during the GameCube generation and helped publish a mature-rated horror game called Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. This would be a fantastic game to bring back on the Nintendo Switch 2 as it plays with your expectations and makes some gameplay decisions that will surprise you.

It’s a hidden gem for dedicated GameCube fans and could gain new players on the Nintendo Switch 2, who have yet to play the title.IGN, when the game was released, gave Eternal Darkness an impressive 96/100 score. It is also quite an expensive game, selling for around $90-100 on eBay as of the time of writing.

Sonic Adventure 2 on Nintendo Switch 2 would be sick

4Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is one of the best games to feature Sega’s iconic blue hedgehog, period. City Escape is one of the most memorable 3D levels ever made. Sonic enters the stage by jumping off a helicopter, hopping on a board down the busy San Francisco-like city streets, and then getting chased by a huge truck down the hills. You don’t get more radical than that.

The game is also known for a thrilling story and some decent boss battles here and there. Players could also check out the Battle mode that lets you race against each other. Adding online functionality through the Nintendo Switch Online app would be amazing.

3The Simpsons: Hit & Run

The Simpsons: Hit & Run

One game many who have been shouting for a remaster or remake for is The Simpsons: Hit & Run. It was Fox Interactive’s answer to Grand Theft Auto, with a fully explorable Springfield and entertaining missions to complete with each member of the Simpsons family. The art style would still look great to this day and being able to experience a cherished childhood classic would be brilliant for many Switch 2 owners.

“The use of 3D models instead of cel shaded ones was controversial at the time, but has resulted in an art style that still looks good in the game itself,” said ourGraveyard article about Hit & Run. With how much pedigree this game has, it’s surprising it hasn’t received a remaster yet. Getting included in the GameCube Switch 2 app would be the next best thing.

2The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

It seems like we won’t be getting the Wii U HD remasters on Switch or Switch 2 anytime soon after Wind Waker has been confirmed for the GameCube app. So, it seems like Twilight Princess may get the same treatment. It’s still one of the most memorable entries in the series, due to its darker art style. Midna, Link’s sidekick in the game, is hilarious and sinister at the same time with her wicked smile. The darker storyline also adds a bit of grit to this entry in the beloved series. Turning into Wolf Link is also entertaining with its own unique puzzles into the mix.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is also a Wii game.

1Super Smash Bros. Melee

Super Smash Bros. Melee

The best Super Smash Bros. entry in many fans' eyes is Melee. It has fast-paced combat and outstanding stages like Hyrule Temple and Princess Peach’s Castle. How amazing would theFountain of Dreamslook in 4K? It also introduced beloved characters like Marth and Mewtwo into the fray. The game has aged beautifully as well, with wonderful graphics for its time.

There is a reason why there’s been a competitive scene for decades now, since its 2001 release, thanks to its faster speed and mechanics. Adding online functionality to it through the GameCube app on Switch 2 would revitalize the community and make online matches possible. Hopefully, they won’t have to carry around the CRTs anymore.
