Alex Garland, the filmmaker bringingElden Ringto the big screen, has beaten the game multiple times and is a specialist when it comes to taking down its toughest bosses.

Alex Garland Is a Pro Elden Ring Player

Few believed the rumor that Alex Garland would be directing theElden Ringadaptation—but as it turns out, it was true.

The man behind films likeEx Machina, Civil War, and Annihilationis a perfect fit for this project, which is being produced by A24.

The Elden Ring Movie Could Have a Top Tier Director

But is he actually familiar with FromSoftware’s game, or is this his first journey into the Lands Between? Garland himself has put those doubts to rest.

While promoting28 Years Later, a film for which Garland is the screenwriter, the British director gave an interview to IGN.

Avoiding Movie Talk, But Not the Game

Naturally, the interviewer couldn’t resist asking about theElden Ringmovie, but Garland shut it down immediately: “I’m not going to say anything about that project.”

However, when the topic shifted to the game itself, his demeanor changed completely. In fact, he was more than happy to talk about his achievements in the RPG—especially when asked about the hardest bosses.

“Radahn? Radahn is very easy,” he stated. “If you summon the right allies, they take out half his health, and you just finish him off.”

According to Garland, the true queen of the game isMalenia: “She’s the real challenge,” he said during the interview.

Seven Playthroughs and Fully Geared Up

The director added that he’s already deep into multiple playthroughs: “I’m on my seventh run, totally overpowered, high-level, and fully geared up—I’ve even got a great sword.”

For him, the key to progressing in the game is perseverance:

“I face the bosses over and over and over again. It’s a technique I learned fromDark Souls.”

“It’s not about getting better as a player,” he added. “It’s all about persistence—it’s like the Infinite Monkey Theorem. If you keep trying, eventually, the bosses will fall.”

Garland is referring to the famous mathematical theory that suggests a monkey randomly typing on a keyboard for an infinite amount of time will eventually produce any given text—even the complete works of Shakespeare.

Quite a résumé Garland has, right? On top of that, he’s no stranger to the video game industry—he wrote the scripts forEnslaved: Odysseyto the WestandDmC:Devil May Cry.

It’s clear thatAlex Garlandisn’t just a casualElden Ringfan—he’s a FromSoftware veteran who understandssoulslikegames and plans to bring that player’s perspective to theElden Ringmovie adaptation.
