Firstannounced in 2023,Dexter: Original Sinhas been making a lot of waves lately as news of a prequel series to the original Showtime hithas been met with a mixed bag of responses thus far. Set 10 years prior to the events inDexter, which began in 2006, the series stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan, the avenging serial killer made famous by Michael C. Hall.
Thanks toVariety, we now haveour first look at Gibson as the young killerin an image which takes us back to the original series — showing one of Dexter’s victims wrapped in plastic, with a young Morgan dressed to the nines in his famous rubber apron and gloves, poised for the kill.
In addition to Gibson, Showtime at Paramount+ has also revealed our first look at some ofDexter: Original Sin’sother cast members, which include Christian Slater as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father, and Molly Brown as his foul-mouthed sister Debra Morgan, portrayed in the original series by the incomparable Jennifer Carpenter. Dexter: Original Sin Will Feature Fresh Faces in Familiar Roles
WithDexterrunning from 2006 to 2013 on Showtime, fans of the series got comfortable with a cast of familiar faces: Angel Batista (David Zayas), Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez), Vince Masuka (C.S. Lee), and even Dexter’s birth mother, Laura Moser (Sage Kirkpatrick), in several flashbacks each week. Despiteits controversial ending, as is the case with many popular TV shows, some viewers felt a sense of loss, like they’d just said goodbye to beloved family members they’d gotten to know over the course of eight years.
While the 2021 revival series,Dexter: New Blood, introduced fans to a whole new cast, past favorites like Jennier Carpenter, David Zayas, and even John Lithgow (asthe series’ most iconic villain, Arthur Mitchell, a.k.a. The Trinity Killer), made an appearance in the show to help audiences get their nostalgic fix.
Such will not be the case withDexter: Original Sin, as a whole set of fresh faces will be stepping into some iconic roles that audiences will have to get to know all over again. While the prequel certainly features some big names, whether audiences take to them over the course of the 10-episode series remains to be seen.
