We can expect more sci-fi drama coming down the pipeline fromDavid S. Goyer(The Dark Knight,Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). The writer-producer has signed a multi-year overall deal with Skydance Television, expanding his already strong relationship with the studio. Under the new agreement, he will create, develop and produce original series through his production banner, Phantom Four. President of Skydance Television, Marcy Ross, had this to say about the prolific creator.
“Throughout his career, David has proven time and again he is a one-of-a-kindvisionary talent as a storyteller and producerfor both the big and small screen. David is masterful at bringing to life epic stories and creating massive worlds and we couldn’t be more excited to continue our collaboration with him.”
The partnership between the studio and Goyer is a fairly extensive one already. He currently serves as showrunner and executive producer on the Skydance Television’sscience fiction drama series Foundation, which is set to debut on Apple TV+. He is also credited as a writer on Skydance’s upcomingTerminator: Dark FatefromDeadpooldirector Tim Miller, with Skydance’s own David Ellison producing alongside prolific filmmaker James Cameron. In the producing realm, Goyer is attached to Chris McKay’s action sci-fiGhost Draft(working title) starring Chris Pratt and Yvonne Strahovski. Goyer had this to say about the opportunity to “expand his partnership” with the team atSkydance.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with them on both features and now television,” said Goyer. “In David Ellison, I’ve found a kindred spirit. His love for science fiction and world-building is deep and genuine and I feel very much at home collaborating with him.”
Goyer’s work on Nolan’sDark Knighttrilogy earned him a lot of clout within the science-fiction and superhero genre. He went on to pen the screenplays for Zack Snyder’sMan of Steeland its sequel. He created the Syfy seriesKrypton, ABC’sFlashForward, NBC’sConstantineand Starz’sDa Vinci’s Demons. He also serves as executive producer on Neil Gaiman’sThe Sandmanwhich is in pre-production for Netflix. He and Guillermo del Toro (Shape of Water) have joined forces as producers on Scott Cooper’s upcoming horror filmAntlers.
Skydance Television has its feelers in a few different streaming platforms and networks. The studio currently producesGrace and Frankiewhich is about to hold the title as highest episode count for a Netflix Original after its seventh and final season. Also for Netflix, Skydance is behindAltered Carbonwhich is going into its second season.Condorfor AT&T Audience Network and Amazon’sTom Clancy’s Jack Ryanare also on the studio’s slate.
Television viewing has been undergoing constant shifts in the last decade, and overall deals is just a minor part of it. J.J. Abrams joined with WarnerMedia is an extensive deal recently, Ryan Murphy currently creates under an extensive deal with Netflix, as Jason Blum does with NBCUniversal, and that’s just to name a few.
