In Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, your companions shape every battle, conversation and decision. They aren’t just passengers on your voidship; they’re catalysts for chaos, power struggles and the occasional moment of unexpected loyalty. Some are forces of nature, tearing through enemies with brutal efficiency. Others are masters of deception, pulling strings from the shadows.
Review: Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a fine addition to the constantly growing catalog of games set in the grim darkness of the far future.
And then there are some that will make you wonder why they even bothered showing up. This ranking isn’t about blind loyalty; it’s about cold, hard reality. Who’s the best in combat? Who has the most game-changing abilities? Who’s just so much fun that you don’t care if they’re actually useful? Let’s find out.

14Uralon the Cruel
Daemonic Summoner
While your other companions are firing bolters and swinging power swords, the Cruel is out there summoning daemons into the fight. He’s armed with a staff that not only dishes out serious damage but also grants buffs to your entire party every time it smashes into an enemy.
Your journey to bring Uralon into your fold begins with embracing the Heretical conviction. The big moment with Uralon comes when he asks you to say the final name. You’ll get a few Heretical choices, but the right answer is “Sameth.” Picking this proves your full dedication to Chaos, making Uralon see you as a worthy ally. If you accept his offer, he joins your crew.

13Calligos Winterscale
Aggressive and Powerful
If you need a companion that’s aggressive, fearless, and built around sheer dominance, Calligos Winterscale is one of your best bets. He thrives in close-quarters combat, charging headfirst into the fray with a mix of skill and raw audacity. Your first real shot at winning over Calligos happens during the Coronation in Act 2. This is where you start planting the seeds of an alliance — or, if you’re not careful, putting yourself on his bad side.
Things really heat up in Act 4 when you cross paths on the volatile world of Quetza Temer. Calligos isn’t the type to negotiate with xenos — he’s a man of action, and he’ll be watching to see if you share that same fire.

If you back him up and show him you’re not afraid to take decisive action, he’ll start considering joining you. But the real test comes when he gets tangled up with a Bloodletter of Khorne. If you’re able to convince him that he’s being manipulated, he’ll go head-to-head with the Bloodletter, putting himself in serious danger. This is your moment. If you step up and bring him aboard your ship, the Emperor’s Vow, for medical treatment, it cements your bond.
12Idira Tlass
Always Good to Have Someone Who Can Give You a Heads-Up On Your Team
You meet Idira Tlass right at the start of your journey, during the prologue, and she immediately brings that “is she going to save us or doom us all?” kind of energy to the table. As an Unsanctioned Psyker specializing in Divination, she can peer into the future, give you heads up about oncoming danger, unravel enemy weaknesses, and unleash devastating psychic attacks.
Idira is a fantastic support companion. She comes equipped with an Armoured Bodyglove, a Laspistol, and a Psychic Staff, but let’s be honest — you’re not bringing her along for her shooting skills. You want her because she can see through enemy defenses, predict incoming attacks, and manipulate the battlefield in ways no other companion can.

11Incendia Chorda
She Brings Faith and Fire
As a Ministorum Priest with the Soldier archetype, Incendia is particularly good at keeping momentum in battle — whether through buffs or sheer intimidation, your enemies will have a very bad time once she gets going. So, if you want a companion who’s equal parts warrior, preacher, and moral compass, Incendia is your girl.
Bringing Incendia into your fold isn’t a simple matter of extending an invitation; it requires you to earn her loyalty. It all starts in Chapter 2, when you get the chance to not send tainted provisions to Footfall. By the time you return to Footfall, the place is in chaos, and Incendia is standing at the center of the storm. She’s not just fighting corruption — she’s burning it down, consequences be damned.

This is where you step in. If you’re playing an Iconoclast Rogue Trader, you’ll have the best chance of steering her away from the edge. You have to convince her that her path — while noble in intent — might just be too extreme. If you’re able to get through to her, she’ll join your team.
10Abelard Werserian
Warrior Who’s Not Afraid to Take a Hit and Land One
Abelard Werserian isn’t just a Seneschal — he’s the rock that keeps a Rogue Trader dynasty from crumbling under the weight of its own ambition. He’s the guy who makes sure your empire doesn’t burn down while you’re off fighting xenos, making shady deals, or poking around in the Warp where you really shouldn’t be. He’s got a ledger in one hand and a chainsword in the other, and he’s not afraid to use either.
He’s the first companion you recruit in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, and he’s got your back from day one. Mechanically, he’s built formeleecombat, serving as a tank that can take a hit and dish one out. In addition to his Chainsword, he also has a Flak Vest, and a med box. But beneath all the battlefield grit, Abelard has a personal side too. He’s a widower with four kids and eleven grandkids back home on Dargonus.
9Marazhai Aezyrraesh
Perfect for Close-Range, Fast, and Brutal Combat
If you want Marazhai Aezyrraesh on your side, you’ll need to prove you’re worth more to him alive than you are as a plaything for his people’s twisted games. By the time you get the chance to recruit Marazhai, you’re deep into Chapter III, tangled in the ruthless politics and brutal gladiatorial combat of the Drukhari.
The mission to find him, “The Chasm,” drops you into the nightmare that is the Dark City, where the air is thick with cruelty and betrayal is just part of the daily routine. Here, you’ll cross paths with the Bloodstained Proselytes, a faction that Marazhai is tangled up with. He won’t be rolling out the welcome mat — at least, not at first.
Once he’s aboard your ship, Marazhai is more than just a grim-looking Drukhari with a mean glare — he’s a combat powerhouse. He arrives fully kitted out with Kabalite Armor, a Splinter Pistol, and a Venom Blade, making him a deadly addition to your team. He plays best as an up-close-and-personal melee fighter, slicing through enemies with Blade Flurry, closing gaps with Charge, and keeping himself alive with Defensive Maneuvers.
8Jae Heydari
Master Tactician Who Can Fight or Con Her Way Out of Any Situation
Jae Heydari is not about brute force — she’s about making sure your enemies never even see what’s coming. She specializes in coordination, battlefield control, and making sure your squad is fighting smarter, not harder. But Jae’s value isn’t just in combat — she’s got a brain wired for profit, strategy, and knowing exactly which strings to pull to get what she wants. She’s the kind of person who can talk her way out of (or into) trouble, and find opportunities others miss.
You’ll meet Jae in Footfall during Chapter 2, where she’s already causing trouble — because of course she is. She’s got history, connections, and more than a few enemies, which means bringing her on board isn’t as simple as saying, “Hey, want a job?” No, you’ll need to complete the Persona Non Grata quest, which is less of a job interview and more of a high-stakes negotiation where you prove that teaming up is the best move for both of you.
7Heinrix Van Calox
Powerful Psychic Abilities
Heinrix van Calox is the kind of guy who walks into a room, and suddenly, everyone is either deeply uncomfortable or completely intrigued. He’s got that whole mysterious Inquisitorial agent thing going on — sharp mind, sharper tongue, and a presence that makes you wonder if he’s sizing you up for a potential execution.
You first meet Heinrix on Rykad Minoris, a planet already drowning in trouble by the time you arrive. After handling your main objectives, a new area opens up — the Electrodynamic Cenobium. Fancy name, messy situation. You step inside, and there he is: standing in a chamber, waiting like he already knew you were coming.
When he joins your crew, he’s already level 10, which means you get to shape his build without having to grind him up from scratch. He comes armed with a Force Sword, a Biomancer’s Staff, an Autopistol, and a Flak Vest, meaning he’s perfectly happy fighting up close or blasting enemies from a distance. His psychic abilities let him manipulate the battlefield, dealing damage, weakening enemies, or even buffing allies when needed.
6Yrliet Lanaevyss
A Sharpshooter That Can Pick Off Enemies Before You Spot Them
If you like the idea of having a cold, calculating, and utterly lethal sharpshooter watching your back, Yrliet Lanaevyss is at your service. She’s anOperativewith Assassin talents, so she can pick off high-value targets before they even know they’re in danger.
Space Marine 2: Every Class in Operations Mode, Ranked
Every class ranked from worst to best.
Armed with a sniper rifle, frag grenade and armor, Yrliet Lanaevyss will clear the battlefield with ruthless efficiency. You first find her on Janus during Chapter 2, perched near a red gazebo. She’s not here to make friends, but she’s smart enough to know that teaming up with a Rogue Trader might just be her best shot at survival. Play your cards right, and she’ll agree to join your crew, bringing along her expert marksmanship.
Best Companion for Ranged Attacks
You first encounter Argenta during the early stages of your journey, specifically on the planet Rykad Minoris. When you find her, she’s not waiting for reinforcements — she is the reinforcements. Alone, outnumbered, and absolutely refusing to back down, she’s holding her ground with nothing but faith and superior firepower.
If you don’t step in and assist, she’ll probably still clear the battlefield on her own, but lucky for you, she’s open to a little help. Once the dust settles, she recognizes that your cause might just align with her holy mission, and if you play your cards right, she joins your crew.
Once she’s on board, Argenta becomes your go-to damage dealer. She starts as a Soldier, which means she specializes in ranged combat, and her weapons of choice are bolters and flamers — because what’s better than blowing enemies apart? Blowing them apart while they’re also on fire. Her skill set is built for pure, relentless destruction. Take Burst of Anger, for example — this ability lets her keep shooting as long as she keeps killing. Line up the right enemies, and she’ll tear through them like they’re made of paper.
